This package a number of versions of Bristol single decker buses built between 1956 and 1966 that were still in operation well into the mid-1970’s. The chassis and engines for these were built at the Bristol Works but the bodies were built by the Eastern Coach Works (ECW). They made a number of bus and coach options.
The Bristol MW and SUL were operated by a large number of companies accross the UK. I have delibrately not made the buses route to known destinations to give a certain flexibility although I have tried to give the destinations regional sounding names. I have put at list of the operating areas of each of my liveries at the end of this page.
The Bristol Medium Weight (MW), shown in this group of green liveries, was built to the largest permitted Transport Act size of 10 feet wide and 30 feet long. It is a 45 seater and has the raised rear and front roof profile to accomodate the destination blinds. The MW was not a speedy bus but was economical and reliable.
These are the red liveries of the MWB45F bodied buses. The red livery comes in a brighter and more weathered version. Some have a plain white band and some have it edged in black. Most of these buses were in either green or red.
ECW made a B43F body of 43 seats. Thsese tended to have the fully rounded roof profile with the destination boards set fush to the body. The Crosville livery of later years no longer always carried the mid-band in white ( according to some photos on the web ).
This package also contains three examples of the Bristol SUL (Small, Underfloor engine, Long Bodied) bus. This is fitted with an ECW 36 person B36F body. These buses were narrower and shorter than the MW making them ideally suited to country lanes and the sorts of tight corners found in rural villages.
